What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent brow tattoo performed with a small handheld tool, using a feather stroke technique that mimics real hairs. It truly is so natural looking! With proper care your microbladed brows can last up to 2 years.
What is the difference?
The purpose of cosmetic tattooing is to enhance the natural features of a client. Microblading is a softer/more subtle cosmetic tattoo than some of older methods. Body tattoos use ink while cosmetic tattoo procedures involve pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as client’s natural coloration and facial changes occur.
How long is the appointment?
Two hours on average. During your appointment we will consult with you the entire time ensuring we are on the same page. Much of the time is spent measuring and drawing on a symmetrical set of brows and agreeing on your perfect shape. The actual procedure itself takes 30min to an hour.
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo and as the hair strokes fade they will require a touch up every 1-2 years. The frequency of when you’ll need a touch up depends on a number of factors. A tattoo can fade much quicker on clients who
- Have more oil production
- Have lighter tattooed brows (lighter colors have less pigment and fade faster)
- Are in the sun often or don’t use proper sun protection
- Use daily anti-aging products e.g.- (Tretinoin (Retin-A) & Alpha Hydroxy). These products increase your cell turnover rate and will shorten the life of your cosmetic tattoo
How many treatments are needed?
In order to ensure that the brows heal perfectly a minimum of two treatments are usually needed 6-8 weeks apart on average. This first touch-up is included (in the initial price) as it gives us the ability to correct any areas that possibly faded or allows the client to make suggestions if they want adjustments with the shape or color.
Does it hurt?
We do all that we can to ensure that the process is as comfortable as possible. Before the Microblading begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area to minimize discomfort, followed by a liquid anesthetic. Some clients may feel a slight discomfort, but it’s relatively pain free for most.
(PLEASE NOTE that if you are a frequent smoker, or have your appointment during your menstrual cycle, the pain level could be intensified.)
Products & Equiptment
To ensure the highest quality of safety, all of our tools are one time use only. ALL blades, hand tools, wipes, and any other product used during the procedure are disposed of as biohazardous waste after each appointment, giving each client peace of mind.
Unfortunately, not everyone is a good candidate for Microblading or PMU. Some clients may have one or more symptoms that makes this procedure illogical. PMU Contraindications Include but are not limited to:
Under 18 years of age
Pregnant or lactating women
Skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema and undiagnosed rashes or blisters on the site that is to be treated
Easily triggered post inflammatory hyper pigmentation
Transmittable blood conditions like HIV or Hepatitis
Active skin cancer in the area to be tattooed
Blood thinners (consult with your physician)
Uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Accutane or steroids (consult with your physician)
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY EYEBROW PROCEDURE?
If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment.
You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.
If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please do so at least 3 days before your appointment. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we can remove them, although it is not required.
VACATION If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure due to the aftercare maintenance.
MEDICATIONS We REQUIRE our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
ACCUTANE If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.
SUN EXPOSURE It is highly recommended that you AVOID SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.
ALCOHOL We REQUIRE no alcohol consumption up to 24 hours before your appointment time.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Immediately following your Microblading procedure the tattooed strokes will appear darker and bolder. During the healing process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Not until your touch up session approaches will you notice the faded strokes reammurging. This is normal, as they’ll go from DARK → LIGHT → JUST RIGHT
It’s possible to have areas or strokes that didn’t take. This could be a result from several factors including particular tattooed strokes not being deep enough or improper aftercare. It’s also possible for colors to heal warmer or cooler than initially desired. This is why all clients require a follow up for shape and pigment adjustments.
During your touch up session 6-10 weeks post treatment, your technician can adjust/correct pigment and/or shape. Please be patient and wait at least 6 weeks to see the “true color.”
